Book Review | Get A Life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert

Rating: 5/5

The first book in the Brown sisters trilogy starts with Chloe Brown, the eldest of the three. Chloe has had a tough past and she now hopes to move past it and ‘get a life’. She has a list, carefully curated to get her in touch with her old self and be wild in life. But that is until Red Morgan comes into the scene and things aren’t the same anymore.

I liked the focus on Chloe’s chronic health condition. The book looked really well into fibromyalgia and talked about it openly and transparently through the characters. The plot is so well done! On its surface, its simple – a woman of color, who doesn’t have the ideal body type and suffers from an illness, is simply trying to find her place in the world and be more of herself while trying to enjoy life. And I love that for it! Chloe is such an inspiring character and I absolutely loved her in the book.

Red is someone who is the opposite of Chloe but is every bit as lovable. He helps Chloe so much and he is the one who ties the plot perfectly. And he is easy on the eyes so that is definitely an added bonus!

The sisterhood in the book and close family dynamics are amazing! It is true that no one knows you better than a sister and I loved that!

The book talks on various fronts – mental health, chronic illness, inter-racial couples, past relationship baggage, abuse, anxiety, and so much more! All of it is done in a positive and simplistic manner and brings you really close to these characters. There is a point in the book towards the end where I feared it would become abusive and get depressing for me, but it was handled so well! Kudos to the author.

The book gets very saucy and that is why it is strictly 18+. The contents talk about being safe and taking consent, but at the same time are only for mature audiences.

It is a very tastefully handled romance and puts representation and positivity over everything else! (and Red Morgan :D) I definitely recommend this one!
